02-05-89 Queens 2nd Alarm Queens Box 4192 - 62-74 Fresh Pond Rd Near Bleecker Street
On February 05, 1989, I was visiting the quarters of Engine 292 and Rescue Company 4. They were getting ready to watch the Mike Tyson Heavyweigt championship fight. Just before the fight began, the voice alarm went off, and the firefighter manning the house watch, yelled "Rescue 4" report of a structural fire, The Officer, Grabbed the ticket as members boarded on the rig, As soon as the garage door was raised, they were out the door, The dispatcher advised the Units responding to box 4192, The location, 62-74 Fresh Pond Road & Bleecker Street, we have numerous calls, and a report of people trapped. The first due unit on the scene gave a "10-75" for a three story frame dwelling. The rescue got to the box in about 6 minutes. Upon arrival a three story row frame was fully involved in fire, Fire was showing out the front and side of the building. Firefighters were going up to the roof via Ladder 112's arial ladder to vent the roof as Tower ladder 135 was setting up. Hanlines were stretched into the dwelling as members searched for trapped occupants. A second alarm was transmitted. As the fire was knocked down, members found one 10-45 code 1.which is a DOA. When the fire was out, members of Rescue 4, removed the body bag to an ambulance. When Rescue 4 returned to the fire house, the fight was over, Mike Tyson knocked out his opponet in an early round.
